On September 30th<\/sup> the parish held a special event in celebration of the 300th<\/sup> anniversary of our treasured Vinegar Bible. This event consisted of several presentations regarding its History and musical performances of choral selections of that era. Below are some photos of the event. THE VINEGAR BIBLE<\/span><\/u><\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

2017 is the 300<\/span>th<\/span><\/sup> birthday of our treasured Vinegar Bible. We are planning a celebration of this special year and this segment of the web site will document these activities.<\/span><\/p>\n

THE VINEGAR BIBLE, LIBERATED<\/span><\/u><\/span><\/h2>\n

The Vinegar Bible, one of the parish\u2019s treasured religious artifacts was extracted from its display case on June 19<\/span>th<\/span><\/sup>. Its freedom allowed us to use it for our Gospel reading on June 25<\/span>th<\/span><\/sup> and for all to see pages that have not been on view for many decades. The Bible is in remarkably good shape with a binder that is in good shape and pages, that while they show the wear of many page turnings for about 175 years, that are sturdy in their handling. <\/span><\/p>\n

Vinegar Bible Art Internship<\/u><\/span><\/u><\/span><\/h2>\n

In this 300th<\/sup> anniversary of our treasured Vinegar Bible, we have explored many aspects of this beautiful historic and religious document. After removing it from its display case in June, we have seen many remarkable aspects of this impressive tome. One such aspect is the set of numerous illustrations in the Bible. There are two full page drawings as well as head and tail pieces for each Book of the Bible. These were made from engravings by various artists but who these artists were and what the depictions represent are not known.<\/span>
\nIn order to build our knowledge of these illustrations we have engaged a student in the Art Department at Monmouth University to study these images. The parish has had student interns over the past four years focused mostly on aspects of our history. This is the first time we will have an art student performing such an internship.<\/span>
\nThe internship will align with the current (Fall) semester at the University. The student is Campbell Lee and she is a junior. Campbell is an English major in Creative Writing and an Art History minor.<\/span>
\nHer mentor for this Independent Study will be Art Professor Corey Dzenko.<\/span>
