Veterans Memorial Commemoration

The Reading of the Names

The parish held its annual Churchyard Memorial Service, including the Reading of the Names. The names of all veterans interred in the graveyard were read on Sunday, May 29th after the 10 a.m. service.  These veterans span the eras from the French and Indian War to Vietnam. This event occurred about 11 a.m. in the churchyard at the southeast corner of the church. There was a short performance of patriotic songs by the choir and the choral group Madreglia.

The veterans’ names were read by Judi and Stuart Buncher in costume. Judith Buncher portrayed Sister Veronica of the Sisters of the Holy Cross. The Sisters were the first Naval Nurses on the very first Navy Hospital Ship the Red Rover. Stuart Buncher portrayed a Sergeant from the 2nd NJ Cavalry Company A, part of the 2nd NJ Brigade.

Mother Mary Frances Schjonberg recently was awarded an honorable mention for her video piece below on Christ Church’s 2014 Memorial Day service. The award was presented during the annual Episcopal Communicators organization’s Polly Bond Awards for outstanding communications efforts in 2014.

The judge who gave the award noted that “the video looks great …music is mixed nicely …the concept is great … the piece is a perfect length.” The award came in the Video-Short Form Ultra Low Budget category (the ultra low budget qualification means less than $250 was spent in production).
