Daphne’s Dream
Once upon a time, in “the land down under” there was a young koala whose name was Daphne. Daphne was tired from a day of wandering and playing as koalas do. She spied a house and there was a open door so Daphne went over to the door and looked inside. Nothing seemed to be scary and so Daphne went in the door and there she saw a tree! Daphne was used to trees but this one a rather different than the one she usually slept in. But since she was tired, and young, she went to the tree and climbed up, wrapped her paws around it and went to sleep. Daphne had a strange dream in that strange tree.
In Daphne’s dream, there was a family—a man and a woman and a baby. There were angels fluttering around near the family. There was a shepherd and sheep who came to look at the baby. And there came Wise People from the East.
As Daphne’s dream was ending there was a ruckus from another part of the house. Children came running in shouting. They had with them 3 dogs. The children were returning from Christmas shopping and were so excited about the gifts they’d bought. Their dogs rushed in with them and barked and barked at the Christmas tree. Poor Daphne. What a way to wake up!
The children saw Daphne. They shushed the dogs. Daphne had had enough excitement and mystery for one day and she climbed down from the Christmas tree and went out the way she’d come in.
As Daphne trundled out the door and into the world she was more familiar with, she took with her the memory of her strange dream in that strange tree.
